Week 37 - Transfer 6

Torino 31- la mia gelateria preferita è chiuso e non so come di affrontare questa
prova. (my favorite ice cream shop is closed and I do not know how to face this test.)

Hey y'all! I'll start off with the funny part so maybe you'll keep reading the rest. So remember how I had to give
a talk? I sent it to our dear Anziani for editing/ grammar check/ please make it longer bc I'm out of ideas. So Anz.
C added a sentence that contained something like: "don't get discouraged...". Ok so the word for discourage is
"scoraggiare" and the word for fart is "scoreggiare". So can you see the potential problem here? He told me to
be very careful in my pronunciation, and I even practiced it. And can you guess what I said up at the pulpit? Yeah
I pretty much told the whole congregation to not fart themselves. I heard some chuckles from the bishopric
behind, then I couldn't help but laugh, too.

• But...church was amazing because M came. She loved it. People immediately came to introduce themselves
and meet her. 4 people volunteered to be member presents in future lessons with her. So warm fuzzy time: L,
a returned missionary (she served in DC), just moved to Torino, for her job as an elementary school teacher.
After sacrament meeting, she immediately introduced herself, then sat with M through the next 2 hours,
explaining things and being her friend. L is absolutely amazing. That was her first week in the ward.
Coincidence? I think not.
She joined us in our lesson with M on Monday and was a huge help, bore powerful testimony, and is the friend
that M needs. That lesson helped all of us profusely. After, L told us about how much she misses her mission,
and being a part of lessons brings her so much joy, and now I have a role model for what kind of member I want
to be when I no longer wear a nametag.

•I have a son! His name is Anz. G and he seems like a cool guy. But since he's all the way in Vercelli, I'll only
see him twice this transfer so I won't be a super involved mom. I did make sure to give Anz. R lots if parenting
advice or how to raise our kid :)

• Sorella S left and I miss her dearly. It was great having someone who was such a hard worker & got my sense
of humor (or at least pretended to laugh at my jokes :)

• I've made a goal to speak Italian a whole lot more than necessary. And so far it's been a lot of fun! My new
comp, Sorella M came from Pisa and apparently in that ward the missionaries just spoke to and taught
everyone in English so this will be a transfer of stretching and growth for both of us, in various ways.

• we have gone to get gelato like 6 times and its been closed every time. Even though we have faith that it will
be open we get disappointed so this just goes to show that our faith can't take away the owner's agency. But
they have lost a lot of business!

• I have made a different variation of risotto everyday for lunch. It's always like 60% vegetables, which Sorella
M and my digestive system both appreciate. Also, it turns out that chopping vegetables is therapeutic.

Okay so since I made a resolution to read the whole "missionary library", I've been reading through True to the Faith.  In the section on gambling I ran across something that really hit home. "Gambling is motivated by a desire
to get something for nothing. This desire is spiritually destructive". So even though I or someone close to me
doesn't have a gambling problem, this mindset can be applied to so many things. I've met missionaries who
expect to get fluent in Italian just for living in Italy but don't put forth any effort to study and accept correction, for
example. And that's just one example of the destructive mindset of laziness. It's everywhere and I'm constantly
battling it. So my invite for y'all is to work hard and remember that the gospel teaches us to be diligent and
self-sufficient. But to also serve those who aren't, even if they're annoying.

Ok bye bye I love y'all!
