Week 59 - Another week in the lives of Sorelle Riley and Merl 😁

Hello, friends! Its been like 9 days since the last P-day so here you go!

At our weekly cooking service project, we met an old Catholic lady. She asked us why we came here to spread our religion when there is already the Catholic church. I wanted to say something like "Um because everyone (especially its members) hates the Catholic church", but instead my comp bore a sweet, sincere testimony.

We gave a BOM to Samuel. We were doing finding in centro and when we approached he seemed like he had been just waiting for us to come talk to him. He was super legit and prepared. He gladly accepted the Book I had written my testimony in and said he'd start by reading the scriptures I had marked inside. He wants us to meet his family and teach them more.

After teaching our new convert, Kingsley, about missionary work, a friend of his came up and joined us. He got to practice what he had just learned and explained who we are, what we teach people, and even invited his friend to come to church with them. (Kingsley got the priesthood on Sunday! He's such a good example to his buddies who will be getting baptized soon).

A member who was born and raised in this area (and is very proud of that fact), signed a BOM in the local dialect of Südtirol. We have been using that book to find the locals amidst the tourists. We've asked some people to translate it for us. That makes them 1. Read a testimony of the BOM and 2. open up to one or two of the marked scriptures. We're such sneaky sorelle :)

We now have an "English" gospel principles class for our Nigerians. It is taught by a member in our ward who speaks something he calls English. I think the Africans understand him better than us bc its more like their Pigin dialect. So yeah we have a trilingual branch: German, Italian, and Pigin. This guy is a Südtiroler and married a girl from Ukraine. Their common language is English so that's how they communicate and we're still a little confused about how that works, I think they've just invented their own dialect. He insists on speaking "English" to us and I'm like bro please stop I don't speak this language!

Speaking of languages, my comp speaks amazing English, sometimes I forget it's her second language. But then, a few days ago, in a lesson with a Nigerian, she invited him to come to our cult with us. That was funny.

Well, that about sums up the week! P-day is on Friday this week because we're going to Verona for a culture event (you'll hear all about it next week!)

I love you all!

we made another dang good lasagna  /  sneaky pic from a lesson bc look how cute!!!

scenes from around the city

Iranian food from our buddy Majid. He lives 2 floors below us and is so nice and can't go back to his country bc he became a Christian. We teach him German and he makes us food.

the "drive through". Its this little stand that sells only watermelon. You go up buy a piece, and eat it right at the counter. The Anziani are obsessed and have been so many times. We finally got to tag along. They're buddies with the owner whose whole business depends on them, and he keeps them updated with the World Cup score.
Quotes from Anz Wilson: "Its like a drive through for human cars" "Anz. Kewene-Hite is a fruit bat"
