Torino 37 - Life With a Newborn
Training. Expectation: a naive, sweet yet helpless puppy following me around asking lots of questions. Reality:
different.
different.
My greenie is Swiss, but has lived in Utah for the past 8 years. She likes to organize things. We got gelato the
day I picked her up so you could say I'm a pretty good trainer.

Obviously, a big role as trainer is to help her learn the language. She looks forward to being fluent in Italian, a
great goal. But she avoids speaking the foreign language at all costs. So yesterday, during comp study, we were
going to do a little role-play of a principle (we call it a B.O.O.M). "Do I have to do it in Italian?" "Yes, of course".
So I told her if she did hers in Italian, I'd do mine in German (her mother tongue and a language I haven't used
in 11 years). So after scraping up what was left in my long-term memory and skimming some PMG, I did my little
message in German and we got to switch roles for a sec and it was good for both of us. I'll try to implement that
daily.

The other day, I learned a valuable lesson about mistakes. We had planned to read 1 Nephi 14 with A and S,
but when we got there I told them ch. 13 and as soon as we started I realized that we had already read that last
time. Oops. We kept on reading it, and as we finished up, I realized that was just what S had needed to read
and he learned some great new things from it. Then on the way home, I got us on the metro going the wrong
way (which is a really stupid mistake, especially considering how long I've been in this city). After 2 stops I was
like oops let's switch metros. In the car we got on, 2 feet from me was a less-active member who we've been
trying to contact but she's always "too busy". I got to chat with her and get to know her and hopefully she'll let us
meet up sometime now. So yeah, two stupid mistakes that were not in my plans, but they were in the Lord's. So
cool stuff. Sometimes things work out soon enough to see the why.

Well, folks that's all for this week!
Love,
Sorella Riley
