Bressanone
As you can read in the subject line, I love my new city! (Bressanone is Italian, Brixen is German, and in English the names are used interchangeably). Everything here is bilingual, from street signs to groceries, it's all in German and Italian. Even the people are mostly bilingual, although everyone has a perferred language and it's usually German. This area (Südtirol) used to be part of Austria, about 200 years ago and the people are still salty about being part of Italy, hence the clinging to their German language. I feel like I moved out of Italy, and my companion feels like she's back home in Austria. We live in the mountains, a gorgeous gem in Europe full of breathtaking views, fresh-tasting tap water, and cool, sunny days. I hope you get the point, it is amazing here.
Our tiny branch is awesome. We've already met with some members who are super cool. My companion is also the sweetest so this is going to be so good!
As we were sitting in sacrament meeting singing "Wie groß bist du" ("How Great Thou Art"), I actually teared up, thinking about how strong the members are and how much extra faith it takes to believe and belong to a church that is so tiny and unknown in this area. The church is the same everywhere, despite the number of people or the language they're speaking. Alma 37:6-7. ("Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.") The church is true everywhere. I know that and I just want everyone to know that.
I love you all and have an amazing week!
